- If it goes wrong. Even with meticulous forward planning things can still go wrong. If they do, our custom-built premises at Amesbury allow us to carry out a detailed investigation of the clinical disease to get to the cause of the problem. Taken in conjunction with our detailed knowledge of your own particular situation we can devise a treatment plan to help reduce losses and speed rapid recovery of the rest of the birds.
- Early diagnosis and treatment. The first few days of life for your chicks are vital. It is vital to ensure that they are properly hydrated and have high quality palatable food easily available to them.
Amongst the commonest causes of problems at this stage is Rotavirus. Mortality levels can be as high as 15-20%, so every effort must be made to avoid infection. The virus is initially a consequence of poor egg hygiene. Early treatment is essential to reduce losses.
With an average of 280 investigations each year, we have a fund of knowledge to help you out if you run into problems.
- Our investigation. In order to get best value out of the investigation we need to see a few typically affected birds (plus one or two freshly dead ones). For each investigation we set aside an hour to ensure that we can carefully investigate the history of the problem, assess what is most likely to be the underlying cause and devise a treatment plan. With the client present at the investigation they can then head home with the plan and necessary medication in their hands. Often further tests are required, the results of which will be passed on to you, the client as they come in.
- Follow-up visits often provide further vital clues to good damage limitation and in preventing further episodes.
